The International Radiology Society (ISR) and the Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging Society of São Paulo (SPR) will promote the 27th International Congress of Radiology (ICR 2012) from May 3rd to 6th at the Transamerica Expo Center, in São Paulo (SP).
The ISR promotes the event every two years in different locations in the world and the ICR now comes to Brazil 33 years after its last edition in the country, in 1977, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
The initiative to promote a world congress on Radiology took place in the end of the 19th century in Great Britain. Since then, the ICR meeting has occurred in many countries, always promoting educational activities and discussions on health policies. The last editions of the event took place in Mexico (2004), South Africa (2006), Morocco (2008), and China (2010).
The ICR 2012 in Brazil will generate positive results to all parties involved. For the ISR, this will be a great opportunity to hold a Congress at a key location for Radiology in Latin America. For the SPR, the event happening jointly with JPR confirms the process of internationalization of the Journey. For participating radiologists, this will certainly be an unforgettable moment of learning and scientific exchange.
Organized yearly by the Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging Society of São Paulo (SPR), the São Paulo Radiological Meeting (JPR) receives in 2012 the International Congress of Radiology – ICR 2012 from May 3rd to 6th, at the Transamerica Expo Center, in São Paulo, Brazil.
The JPR is the main event on Diagnostic Imaging in Latin America and the fourth largest in the world. In every edition, the event receives a significant number of participants from all Brazilian states and from neighboring countries. Approximately 12,000 people attended the last edition, in the end of April, 2011, including attendants, speakers, coordinators, exhibitors, visitors, and others.
Demonstrating constant and accelerated growth, JPR has undergone an internationalization process since 2009, when the SPR, the French Radiology Society (SFR), and the Inter-American School of Radiology (CIR) promoted the JPR’2009/I France-Latin America Radiology Congress.
In 2010, the SPR worked with the Italian Society of Medical Radiology (SIRM) and promoted the JPR’2010/I Brazil-Italy Congress of Radiology.
In 2011, a partnership was signed with the Chilean Radiology Society (SOCHRADI), and the result of this association was JPR’2011/I Brazil-Chile Radiology Congress.
The ICR 2012 – International Congress of Radiology, along with the JPR’2012, is a very important moment in the process of internationalization of the Journey, but is not an end point. After the world meeting on Radiology, the SPR will also have the honor to host the World Congress of Ultrasound, from May 2nd to 5th, 2013, along with the JPR’2013.
The International Society of Radiology (ISR) was created in 1925 and legally recognized in 1995. Throughout more than 80 years of existence, the Society has promoted scientific world meetings on Radiology, seeking a broader educational and political role and working to improve this field in multiple countries. Today, 86 national societies all over the world are associated with the ISR.
In the last decade, the ISR sought to expand its efforts to work beyond the sponsoring of congresses. The society grew and transformed to better meet the needs of its members. Also, the ISR emphasized its connection with the World Health Organization, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the International Labor Office, the Pan-American Health Organization, and other international science institutions.
The Society’s contact programs keep growing and efforts of cooperative education with leading manufacturers have also been made. Moreover, the organization of regional societies in Africa and in the Middle East has also been stimulated in view of the major difficulties found in both regions.
As recognition of its impact in the world of Radiology, permanent seats in the ISR’s executive board were assigned to the European Association of Radiology, the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology, the Inter-American College of Radiology, and the American College of Radiology.
The Radiological Society of São Paulo was founded in 1968 and currently has more than 2,300 members, covering all areas in diagnostic imaging. Integrated to the Department of Diagnostic Imaging of the Association of Medicine of São Paulo, and member of the Brazilian College of Radiology, this entity has dedicated throughout the years to the defense of radiologists, the scientific development, and the dynamization of the field according to the highest principles of professionalism.
The SPR also seeks international alliance in order to develop and enhance the contact between Brazilian radiologists and professionals from various regions of the world. The scientific meetings are an important part of this work.
